Kutsu no Hanabi

Fireworks Beneath My Shoes

Official English title: Fireworks of Shoes song by Yorushika (n-buna, suis)

Hey, hey, Even if I wanted to say something, words wouldn’t be enough Because, because I’ll just be left with my mouth hanging Hey, hey Even if I stay silent, I have no need for words Because my eyes will speak for me Forgetting is the fruit that bugs have begun eating away at1 All that’s in my memories now is an eternally smiling face Soaring through the sky colored in twilight and even rushing out of the atmosphere Right below me, shrinking further and further is the town where you once were Flowers2 bloomed right at the tips of my shoes Huge flowers of fire bloomed Thinking that I’ll leave all these feelings behind me そんな夏が見えた That’s the kind of summer I could see Hey, hey Even if I try to get to know you, I couldn't make up my mind I’m sure it’s because you’re so full of pride There’s not a thing that can relieve me, but the sky is still beautiful today Everything I’ve eaten must be the price I pay for being alive With how I am now, I’ll never even become the nighthawk3 朝焼けた色 空を舞って 何を願うかなんて愚問だ 大人になって忘れていた 君を映す目が邪魔だ Fluttering about in the sky colored by the morning glow “What do you wish for?” is such a stupid question I’ve grown up and forgotten what it was Your reflection in my eyes just gets in my way All the way down, flowers roared Huge flowers of fire roared Thinking that just the sound alone could bring me to tears That’s the kind of summer I heard Hey, hey Even if I soar through the skies, I’ll never see the end of it Because, because I know I’ll just end up looking for you again Soaring through the sky colored in twilight Breaking free even from the present of this planet Right below me, what had shrunk further and further and then vanished, was the town where you once were In the summer sky, flowers bloomed Huge flowers of fire bloomed Thinking that I want to keep crying forever and ever That’s the kind of summer that vanished

Notes: 1 The word 結果 kekka can refer to both the consequences of something, similarly to “the fruits of your labor,” and also literal fruit. The line here can be taken as “forgetting is the result of bugs having begun to eat” and also “forgetting is the fruit that bugs have begun eating.” 2 All mentions of “flowers” in the lyrics refer to fireworks. In Japanese, the word for fireworks 花火 (hanabi) is made up of the kanji for “flower” and “fire.” 3 The song references Kenji Miyazawa’s short story titled “The Nighthawk Star.”

SONG INFO Album: Natsukusa ga Jama wo Suru (2017) Track 04

n-buna: "There is a song on the first album called 'Fireworks Beneath My Shoes,' which uses Kenji Miyazawa's short story 'The Nighthawk Star' as a motif. The story of a nighthawk rising into the sky is a metaphor for the ghost from "Clouds and the Ghost," who utimately ascends into the heavens and disappears like fireworks. However, instead of going on forever, the nighthawk runs out of energy and crashes down somewhere."
